Rev
France A. Davis was born and reared on a Gough, Georgia
farm, number eight of nine children. After graduation from Waynesboro
High and Industrial School, he attended Tuskegee Institute. He served
four years during the Vietnam era in the USA Air Force as a jet mechanic.
After honorable discharge, he earned degrees in Afro-American Studies
from Merritt College, Arts and Humanities from Laney College, Rhetoric
from University of California at Berkley, Religion and Philosophy
from Westminster College, Mass Communication from the University of
Utah, and Master of Ministry from Northwest Nazarene College.
He moved to Utah in 1972 as a Communication
Teaching Fellow and graduate student. After one year, he was appointed
instructor and has continued to teach courses in Communication and
Ethnic Studies. He earned a Distinguished Teacher Award in 1974.
He lectures widely on cultural and
religious topics. He serves on community and national boards including
IOCs of America, Salt Lake County Career Service Council, Salt Lake
Housing Authority, and Salt Lake Convention and Visitors Bureau.
He received an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters Degree from the
University of Utah, the Governor's Humanities Award, and the Utah
State University Distinguished Service Award.
He was installed as pastor of Calvary
Baptist Church in 1974. Under Pastor Davis' leadership, and by God's
Grace, the Calvary congregation has continued to flourish in the
Land of Zion.

Davis' anniversary on April 23rd-April 25th, 1999. |
